About Theatre

          Theatre, is a live movie that takes place in an theatre or opera house. Performers are telling a story using body movements, music, dialogues and many other things to show the audience what happened in the story. 
          I think theatre has this unique characteristic among all the art forms, which is being a live show. Live show allows people to interact with what's happening on stage. Me, for instance, even if I am not a professional theatre person, when I go to a musical or an opera, I would still be judging everything on the stage when I'm sitting on my audience's seat. This is what people do. We can judge everything that is taking place on the stage without knowing anything about theatre nor performing art. By that I'm not inferring that people are arrogant jerks that criticise anything they see. I'm saying that this is a clever type of arrogance, because when the any character is on stage performing or singing, people would think it's good. When I'm watching a live theatre production, I would always be amazed because the thing on the stage is by all means, really fascinating. When actors on stage made a mistake, it's absolutely okay to simply continue the scene, because no one in the audience would know that there was something wrong happened. The amazing thing about theatre is its harmony. A special harmony between the audience and the performers. Audience would automatically assume the performance is great, and the performers won't be so stressed out about it. I would say this is the soul of theatre and any forms of performing arts out there. The relationship between the audience and the performers is what really makes theatre good to participate and watch.
          As an actor (not a good one), I would say that the most important thing of performing on stage is to keep calm. Sometimes when I forgot what my next line is or I'm just having a stage fright. These things would have strong impact on one's performance. However, everyone is scared of these things, the only solution is to keep calm on the stage and always be a fast reactor. If there's anything unexpected has happened on stage during a performance, it would be really important for the performers to adapt into the new situation and come up with an idea to solve any problem that comes up.
          There are a lot of things that are easy in theatre, such as getting to know people and getting comfortable around other people. I love it when me and my friends can come up with some random silly stuffs and just act them like it's an actual comedy show or improv show. I really enjoy this feeling when the inspiration that theatre had given me just hits right at me so I can come up with some funny stuff. Although I am enjoying theatre as a whole, I still have to face the challenge of always keeping my awareness, so I can be prepared to react to anything that happens on stage even if no one is expecting them.

During last week while my group was writing the script, we were just writing down everything that we had in mind using our perspective on what would people say during an argument or a fight. Most of the time that all the script we came up with only makes sense when we read it right after we write them down, but after a day, when we go back and read it it does not make that much sense as we thought it might be. And this is one of the techniques to make sure that every line we wrote down can make sense in the play, just by saving the scripts and come back to read it again maybe after a day or two, to revise what we had wrote down. Author: Oscar Wilde Date: Nov. 1st Location: Cheshire Academy Black Box Theatre Director: Marc Aronson Actors: Krystal Charter, Tas Fox, Zoe Genden, Mao Inoue, Jiaxin Li, Shuting Liang, Yuanjun Luo, Amelia Williams, Huijin Zheng The Importance of Being Earnest starts off with two friends, Algernon, and Jack’s argument and conversation about double life and this man called Earnest. Jack fell in love with Algernon’s cousin Gwendolyn but his proposal was refused at the first time by her mother Lady Bracknell. Later on is the story between Algernon’s love with Jack’s ward Cecily. The conflict of the plot is when Algernon and Jack both uses the fake name “Earnest” and both ladies all fell in love with this name. Conflict breaks out when the ladies find out that their name isn’t Earnest but both couples were still in love with each other. What I had learned from the past few weeks about theatre, is not how to perform as an actor, but some general knowledge about what acting and what theatre is. I will now categorize what I had learned into two parts, the first part is stage, and the second part is acting. There are three types of theater stages, Proscenium is the most common one, Thrust has three sides of audience and Arena is what people called, “Theater in the Round”. Different types of stages have their own pros and cons when it comes to performing. On the stage, there are nine areas that has been divided in the shape of a side of a rubix cube. The most center area is called center stage, the audience’s side is called down stage, it is called down stage because the stage used to be tilted, so the side that is closer to the audience is called down stage, the side that is further away from the audience is called up stage.
